Stephen Harper no doubt thinks he's pretty shrewd and clever - he's delayed calling by-elections for the full six months, and put them off another three. But there's no point complaining - the elections will happen when they happen, and people will make up their minds and make their decisions. Mr Harper's day of reckoning has been postponed, but not even he can avoid it entirely. It will come.
The reason for this is straightforward enough. Mr Harper's efforts to conceal his real qualities and agenda always make me want to shout out "Grandma what big teeth you have!". There is a pinched mean-spiritedness to his government that does not reflect where Canadians want to go.
Our cities need funding for public transit and housing. Our students and universities need funding to make sure every qualified student has a chance and our institutions have a chance to excel. Our country needs to find its voice in the world again, instead of the Republican echo we have become.
I am looking forward to this race - meeting citizens and voters is always stimulating. Anyone wanting to volunteer or donate to the campaign can go to http://www.bobrae.ca and help us out!!
