LPCO: A message from Bob Rae
“This weekend, I’ll be attending the LPCO AGM in Toronto, together with hundreds of our fellow Liberals. I’m particularly looking forward to the discussions on the issues that concern Ontarians and our Party: our rural/urban nature; economic sustainability and the environment, the challenges facing a resource-based economy and the participation, contributions and challenges faced by women, and our Aboriginal communities in our Party and our Province. I hope to speak personally with you on the convention floor and to greet you at our reception on Saturday night.”

Bob in British Columbia
Bob arrived at YVR at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday April 30th, having left his home in Toronto at 2:00 a.m. Vancouver time. From the airport, Bob went to meet the Honourable Raymond Chan and his constituency office staff at their Richmond office. After a brief get-acquainted visit, Raymond accompanied Bob to a dim sum brunch at the Shiang Garden Restaurant in Richmond. Bob’s remarks focused on the future of one young child in the audience named Griffin.

Bob then paid a late-morning visit to the Ross Street Temple in Vancouver, where he met with members of the Sikh community and subsequently the Board of the Khalsa Diwan Society, the oldest Sikh organization in Canada. Upon leaving the temple, Bob was interviewed by Bhupinder Hundal from Channel M. The interview was translated and aired on Sunday evening news programs in Cantonese, Mandarin and Punjabi.

On a bright sunny afternoon in Surrey, Liberals from communities ranging from Chilliwack to New Westminster to Delta at the Central City Brewing Company came to meet Bob. The meeting was attended by two former provincial cabinet ministers and past Federal Liberal candidates, Brenda Locke and Joyce Murray, as well as the president of Surrey’s Guru Nanak Temple, Balwant Singh Gill.

Later Sunday afternoon, Bob met more Liberals at the Plaza 500 Hotel in Vancouver. At this session, Bob emphasized the importance of focusing on Stephen Harper’s agenda rather than upon perceived differences between Liberal leadership candidates.

On a bright and windy Monday morning, Bob got off to an early start with a round of radio interviews. First stop was CBC for a conversation with Rick Cluff live on Early Edition. Next, it was a telephone interview on Victoria’s CFAX radio with Joe Easingwood. Finally, Bob spent an hour on-line with CKNW’s Bill Good: British Columbia’s most listened-to radio program, where Global TV took the opportunity to meet up with him as well.

It was then off to Nanaimo for a fund raising luncheon to benefit the Nanaimo-Alberni Federal Liberal Association. Later in the afternoon, Bob was interviewed first by Public Eye’s Sean Holman, and then live on-air with A-Channel’s evening news anchor Hudson Mack. The final event of Bob’s visit to British Columbia was a Liberal Party meeting at the Princess Mary Restaurant in Victoria.

Launch of Liberal Leadership Campaign
Bob launched his campaign on Monday April 24 before an overflow crowd at Ryerson University in Toronto. A diverse group of Canadians, including former Ontario Premier Bill Davis, jazz musician Oscar Peterson and Air India Victims Family Association representative Lata Pada, were welcomed by Ontario MPPs George Smitherman and Greg Sorbara.
